cjpais/Handy

A free, open source, and extensible speech-to-text application that works completely offline.

Handy is a free, open source, cross-platform desktop app (built with Tauri in Rust) that transcribes your speech entirely offline. Press a customizable shortcut, speak, and the transcription is pasted into whatever text field you're using. It uses Silero VAD to filter silence and Whisper or Parakeet models for local transcription on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Why now: not clear from the sources

Who it is for: Anyone who wants privacy-focused dictation on their desktop — writers, developers, or users with accessibility needs — without cloud services or paywalls.
