4th Infantry Division

The commander of the Sudanese army's 4th Infantry Division has ordered troops in the southeastern Blue Nile region to raise combat readiness ahead of a possible offensive against rebel forces. The directive signals an escalation in one of Sudan's long-running regional conflicts, where government troops have fought insurgent groups for years, and is drawing attention from observers tracking security across the country's volatile border areas.
