Blindsight

Peter Watts' 2006 hard science fiction novel Blindsight is being discussed again. The book, which follows a crew of modified humans investigating an alien presence after thousands of probes appear in Earth's orbit, is widely praised for its ideas about consciousness and intelligence. Readers are debating its themes, including the question of whether self-awareness is actually necessary for intelligence.
