The influx points to worsening violence in Sudan's conflict zones, particularly Darfur, where civilians face attacks while escaping to border areas. Aid agencies and regional observers are voicing alarm over the safety of displaced women and children and the growing strain on refugee camps in eastern Chad.

The International Organization for Migration says people displaced by fighting in Sudan's Darfur region are crossing the border into Chad. The agency also reported that more than two thousand people fled from El Fasher to Tawila in recent days because of deteriorating security conditions. The movement adds to the large displacement crisis caused by Sudan's ongoing conflict.
