Chompi

CHOMPI, a portable sampling instrument popular with hobbyist musicians, has been released as open-source, covering both its hardware and software. The move lets users modify, repair and build on the design themselves. The announcement is drawing attention in the music-tech community, where open-sourcing hardware instruments is still relatively rare and often sparks new community-driven mods and clones.
