Defending champion Fifa Laopakdee of Thailand shot an 8-under 63 in windy conditions Thursday to take a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. The Thai amateur returned to the top of the leaderboard in the event he won last year, with the tournament again serving as a gateway to invitations to the Masters and The Open for the winner.
