Brighton-based design studio Gomi is transforming discarded Barbie dolls and other plastic waste into colourful tech products such as speakers and chargers. The studio melts down non-recyclable plastics to create marbled, one-of-a-kind designs, drawing attention for showing how toy waste and hard-to-recycle plastics can be given a second life as consumer gadgets.

Kitanakagusuku village in Okinawa Prefecture is recruiting participants for an 'e-SpoGOMI' stage event combining e-sports competition with litter collection, scheduled for November 21. The format, which has spread across Japan in recent years, turns picking up trash into a team-based competitive game scored on strategy and collection results. Japanese tech and gaming media have picked up the call for entrants.
