Gulf of Honduras

The Ocean Cleanup, the nonprofit developing technologies to remove plastic from waterways, has intercepted 463,000 pounds of trash before it could flow into the Gulf of Honduras. The haul was collected from rivers carrying plastic waste toward the Caribbean, preventing it from reaching open ocean waters. The milestone highlights the group's ongoing river interception operations in Central America, one of the zones where significant amounts of plastic pollution enter the sea each year.
