Claims circulating online compare the war in Gaza to the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima, saying 15,000 tonnes of explosives were dropped on Hiroshima versus at least 100,000-200,000 tonnes on Gaza, and that deaths are comparable: 70,000-80,000 killed in Hiroshima against at least 75,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza. The figures are circulating as a striking way to convey the scale of destruction in Gaza, though the comparison between a single atomic bomb and a prolonged air campaign is contested.
