Jev Engineering

A new essay asks a playful question at the intersection of economics and data engineering: what would happen if William Stanley Jevons, the 19th-century economist behind Jevons paradox, could observe Apache Arrow, the open columnar in-memory data format. The piece considers whether making data processing cheaper and faster leads to proportionally greater consumption of compute, echoing the paradox Jevons described for coal use.
