Japan's Fair Trade Commission found 42 companies colluded on large-scale condominium repair work in the Kanto region, ruling it a violation of the Antimonopoly Act. It ordered the firms to pay surcharges of about 1.6 billion yen. The commission says residents' repair costs may have been improperly inflated, prompting public concern over fees charged to apartment owners.

Tokyo is experiencing its longest spell of continuous rainfall, while Chiba Prefecture remains in the middle of recovery from the previous typhoon, with some areas still facing power outages and water supply cuts. The approaching typhoon is now forecast to hit the Kanto region again, raising concern that already damaged communities will suffer further damage.
