Lifetime

A new effort is under way to make satellites easier to connect, repair and upgrade in orbit, an approach that could extend spacecraft lifetimes and cut costs. The initiative, covered by innovation and EU research outlets, points to growing interest in in-orbit servicing, standardised interfaces and modular satellite design as part of Europe's wider space and connectivity ambitions.
