US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has agreed a $1.3 million contract to purchase modified robot dogs from Boston Dynamics, according to a MassLive report. The deal would put the quadruped robots, adapted for the agency's needs, into immigration enforcement operations. The purchase is drawing attention because of Boston Dynamics' past pledges against weaponising its robots and ongoing debate over the militarisation of civilian technology.
