Mignon McLaughlin

A quote attributed to the American journalist and playwright Mignon McLaughlin is being shared among atheists and skeptics: 'When suffering comes, we yearn for some sign from God, forgetting we have just had one.' The line suggests that suffering itself should be read as a sign against divine benevolence, and it is being passed around in discussions of faith, atheism and the problem of evil.
