The US Space Force has retired the final Defense Support Program (DSP) satellites, closing out a decades-old infrared early-warning constellation that detected missile launches from orbit. The satellites, first launched in the 1970s, were gradually replaced by the Space-Based Infrared System. Observers are marking the end of an era in American missile-warning history as the legacy fleet is formally decommissioned.
