The experiment, conducted in 1971 at Stanford University, saw students assigned as guards and prisoners before descending into abuse and being halted early. The streaming giant's decision to dramatise or adapt the concept for entertainment is drawing attention and debate about the ethics of turning such a controversial episode into TV content.
