Staphylococcus aureus

Research published in Nature shows that Staphylococcus aureus resistance to reactive oxygen species, its tolerance of antibiotics, and its virulence depend on the biotope, or specific environment, in which the bacterium resides. The findings suggest that the same bacterial strain can behave very differently depending on where it colonises, with implications for how antibiotic tolerance and infection severity are understood and treated.
