Toys R Us is withdrawing from direct store operations in Japan, with operator Don Quijote Holdings acquiring the Japanese business. All roughly 150 Toys R Us stores across the country are expected to be taken over and continue trading under the new arrangement. Japanese outlets including Nikkei, Yomiuri Shimbun and regional papers are reporting the move, which ends the toy chain's decades-long presence as a standalone retailer in Japan.
