Unix

SDF, the oldest public access Unix system in the United States, founded in 1987, is drawing renewed attention. The nonprofit service offers free Unix shell accounts, web hosting and a membership community to anyone with an internet connection, running for decades as a volunteer-driven alternative to commercial platforms. Commenters are praising its longevity and its role in internet history, with many reminiscing about early shell accounts and questioning why similar community-run systems remain rare today.
