Vortex

A new long-range forecast for winter 2026/2027 suggests a shift toward colder and snowier conditions across the United States, based on updated October data. The outlook cites a super El Nino and polar vortex dynamics as key factors, with potential implications for Canada and Europe as well.

A rare horseshoe vortex cloud was recently spotted over Chatham, Illinois. The distinctive horseshoe-shaped formation is exceptionally short-lived, as the air currents that create it dissipate the cloud within a few minutes. Weather enthusiasts are sharing the photograph, noting how seldom such formations are captured on camera before they vanish.

New October data suggests winter 2026/2027 in the United States will trend colder and snowier than previously expected. Meteorologists point to a strengthening Super El Niño and a projected mid-winter slowdown of the polar vortex, factors historically linked to colder outbreaks and heavier snowfall across much of the country, with possible knock-on effects for Europe.

The French online radio station Vortex is running a live 'Vortex Night' programme playing electro and tribal beats, opening with 'Mannequin Love' by Justice and The Flints. Listeners are invited to tune in via the station's website and to join its Discord community. It is a routine broadcast announcement from a small independent station rather than a major news event.
