On this day in 1920, a grand jury indicted eight Chicago White Sox players for allegedly conspiring to throw the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. The scheme, which became known as the Black Sox Scandal, rocked baseball and led to the players being banned from the sport for life. It remains one of the most infamous episodes in American sports history.
