Wrapped Bitcoin

Circle published a piece outlining how wrapped Bitcoin lets holders use their BTC in decentralized finance, including lending, trading and yield applications across blockchains. The article explains that wrapped BTC brings the largest cryptocurrency's liquidity to smart contract networks, where native Bitcoin cannot operate directly.

Circle, the issuer of USDC stablecoin, has launched a wrapped Bitcoin product available on Ethereum and on Arc, its own blockchain network. The offering lets users use Bitcoin as collateral or a transferable asset within Circle's ecosystem of dollar-based financial infrastructure. Details on rollout, backing and adoption remain limited in early coverage.

Tether-backed Utexo plans to launch USDT on Bitcoin this month using the RGB protocol, allowing private transfers, direct BTC-USDT swaps and BTC-backed lending without wrapped Bitcoin. Lightning Network support is also planned. The move would bring stablecoin functionality natively to Bitcoin, a development closely watched by crypto users discussing scalability and privacy trade-offs.

Wrapped Bitcoin native issuance is now live on the TRON blockchain, as of 30 September 2026, allowing WBTC to be minted directly on the network rather than bridged from elsewhere. The move is aimed at expanding Bitcoin-backed liquidity within TRON's DeFi ecosystem, where stablecoin activity is already heavy. Crypto market watchers are tracking whether native issuance will boost on-chain usage and trading volumes.
