Exactly 36 years ago, Switzerland's ambassador in East Berlin filed report no. 16, titled 'Adieu, DDR!'. The dispatch was critical of the path to German reunification yet concluded that, from a European standpoint, unification was to be welcomed. A newly rebuilt digital edition of the diplomat's reports, created by engineers from both sides of the former Iron Curtain, is drawing fresh attention to the document.
