logical qubits

Italy has presented Volta B1, a quantum computing system boasting more than 4,400 qubits. Defence Minister Guido Crosetto attended the presentation, saying "technology is power" and stressing that the system is developed with defence applications in mind under a "dual use" logic, serving both civilian and military purposes. The announcement is drawing attention as a sign of Italy's ambitions in quantum technology and defence innovation.

Quantum computing is moving from research promise toward practical commercial applications. Recent developments highlight hybrid quantum-classical supercomputing architectures, improved logical qubit error correction, and scaling hardware platforms such as neutral-atom systems. Commenters frame the shift as the field entering a phase focused on real utility for industry rather than pure experimentation.
