Anaao Assomed

In 2025, 3,767 doctors resigned from Italian hospitals, exceeding the 2,876 who retired, according to the union Anaao Assomed. Resignations jumped 150% in a single year. The union attributes the exodus to grueling shifts, low pay, burnout and violence against staff in hospital wards, raising alarms about the state of Italy's public health service.
