Ancyra

The feast day of Saint Theodore the Confessor, a bishop of Ancyra in the 8th and 9th centuries, is being observed. Ancyra is modern-day Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Travelers and history enthusiasts are marking the date by sharing information about the saint and pointing readers toward historical sites in Turkey, including the rock churches of Cappadocia's Goreme, which preserve Byzantine religious heritage from that era.
