Beethoven

A 1959 recording of British pianist Denis Matthews performing Beethoven's Bagatelles, Oppus 33, 119 and 126, is being shared among classical music enthusiasts online. The recording highlights Matthews' interpretations of Beethoven's late short piano works, drawing renewed attention to a historic mid-century performance.

A classical music fan says the urge to sing along to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony has sparked a plan to learn German. The symphony, whose final movement sets Friedrich Schiller's 'Ode to Joy' in German, is nicknamed 'the Glorious 9th'. The idea also carries pop-culture echoes, as the Ninth famously features in 'A Clockwork Orange'.
