Buddy Cianci

Buddy Cianci, Providence's longest-serving mayor, remains a figure of morbid fascination. His first mayoral stint ended after he assaulted a man with a fireplace log, and his second ended with a four-year prison sentence for racketeering as part of Operation Plunder Dome. Despite the scandals, he stayed wildly popular, was re-elected after his conviction, and became a beloved radio host before his death in 2016.
