Two Devon teenagers, Eva Wishart and Emily Smith, have launched a project asking children to rear harvest mice at home before releasing them into the wild. The pair aim to breed and release 250 of the tiny animals by September, in an effort to boost local populations of a species that has declined sharply in the British countryside.

Two teenagers, Eva Wishart and Emily Smith, have launched a project to breed and release 250 harvest mice in Devon by September, and are looking for children to rear the tiny animals at home. The citizen-conservation scheme, reported by Patrick Barkham in the Guardian, invites young volunteers to help raise the mice before their wild release, aiming to boost local populations of one of Britain's smallest mammals.
