Ernest Shackleton

Readers are praising "In Shackleton's Footsteps: A Return to the Heart of the Antarctic," the 2011 book by explorer Henry Worsley, which chronicles his attempt to complete the expedition that defeated Ernest Shackleton a century earlier. One reviewer gave it a full five out of five stars, calling attention to the extreme challenge of retracing Shackleton's route. Worsley, a descendant of Shackleton's crew, later died in 2016 attempting to cross Antarctica solo and unassisted, adding poignancy to the account.
