Grant Stevens

South Australia's Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has been named the state's next Governor. The appointment sees the long-serving police chief move from leading SA Police to the vice-regal role, representing the Crown in South Australia. It is drawing attention as a notable career shift for one of the state's most senior public figures.

Advocates are urging the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Congress to amend the Ted Stevens Act so that the Deaflympics receives the same federal recognition and support as the Olympics and Paralympics. Supporters argue that deaf athletes deserve equal standing and funding protections under the law, and that current exclusions leave the Deaflympics and its US governing body without the legal backing afforded to other elite American sport movements.
