Helicobacter pylori

Barry Marshall, born 30 September 1951, is being remembered as the Australian researcher who won the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for showing that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori causes most peptic ulcers. His discovery, famously tested when he drank a culture of the bacteria himself, overturned decades of medical doctrine blaming ulcers on stress and diet, and transformed treatment worldwide.
