Hindus for Human Rights

A documentary screening about jailed Indian activist Umar Khalid was held in Washington, DC, organised by the group Hindus for Human Rights. Khalid, a former Jawaharlal Nehru University student, has been imprisoned in India since 2020 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in connection with the Delhi riots case. The screening is part of ongoing advocacy by diaspora and rights groups raising concerns about his prolonged detention without trial.

Organisations including Hindus for Human Rights are preparing to mark the Week of Prayer for World Peace, an annual interfaith observance, from October 11 to 18, 2026. The event invites people of different religious traditions to join in shared prayers, reflections and events for peace, and organisers are encouraging communities to take part.
