Anthropic has warned that small, cheaply run AI models may soon be capable of building self-propagating botnets across Internet of Things devices, autonomously spreading and compromising hardware at scale. The warning highlights growing concern that compact AI systems, no longer needing large infrastructure, could automate cyberattacks in ways previously limited to well-resourced hacking groups.
