Italian Alps

Italy's Forestry police have sanctioned nine relic hunters caught searching for artefacts from the First World War on a glacier in the Italian Alps. Authorities warn that melting ice is exposing war remains and memorabilia, which are protected heritage, and removing them is illegal. The case has renewed attention on the looting of high-altitude battle sites from the White War between Italy and Austria-Hungary.
