From 1 November, France's social security system will cap daily allowances paid for work accidents at 1.8 times the SMIC, the minimum wage. The measure, reported by comparison site JeChange, mainly affects high earners, whose compensation will stop at roughly €6,000 gross per month. The change is part of efforts to rein in health-related work stoppages, which have risen sharply in recent years, and has drawn criticism from unions who say it penalises well-paid workers who fall ill or are injured.
