Juan Cole

Historian Juan Cole's article on the Samhain origins of Halloween is being shared widely, arguing that October 31st should be a time of tradition and remembrance of ancestors rather than a capitalist spending opportunity. The piece criticises the flood of single-use plastic costumes and decorations that end up in landfill, urging a return to the holiday's older, more reflective roots.
