Lampedusa

Twenty-eight survivors of a migrant shipwreck have arrived safely in Lampedusa, while the bodies of two people who died were handed over to the Italian authorities. The NGO Sea Watch, which reported the arrivals, is continuing its own reconstruction of the tragedy and is asking whether authorities knew the boat was in distress and failed to intervene. The questions have renewed debate over rescue responsibilities in the central Mediterranean.
