A survey at roughly 3,100 metres near the Line Creek trail area off the Beartooth Highway has found that an ice patch has essentially melted out again this year. The patch melted for what the surveyor describes as the first time in thousands of years last year, and the difference from 2023 is described as striking. With the highway closing in about 12 days, the find is being shared as a stark sign of accelerating alpine ice loss.
