Researchers have reported a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for detecting rutin, a plant compound used in traditional Chinese medicine. The sensor combines chitosan, a porphyrin metal-organic framework with iron oxide nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes and a glassy carbon electrode. The work could support better quality control and analysis of herbal medicines, drawing interest from analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical research communities.
