Munich Marathon

Munich is hosting a large school run as the opening event of its marathon weekend in the south of the city. The event kicks off days of running activities around the Munich marathon, drawing local families and young runners before the main race.

Marathon running is in the news after a string of major results: Richard Reuter led a German triple podium at the Munich Marathon, two runners who recovered from serious illnesses completed the Chicago Marathon, and Eliud Kipchoge, at 41, won the Melbourne Marathon with a course record. Hendrik Pfeiffer also competed among the world's elite in Chicago. The cluster of stories has driven German-language interest in everything marathon-related.

German athletes claimed the top three places in the marathon held in Munich, completing a clean sweep of the podium at the athletics event. The result is drawing attention as a strong showing for German long-distance running on home soil, with coverage highlighting the rare achievement of a triple podium finish.

A runner who took part in the Munich half-marathon in 2026 is sharing a series of race photographs and asking others to find the mistake hidden in them. The post is aimed at the running community, with fellow runners encouraged to treat the photo set as a small puzzle and comment on what went wrong.
