OpenIDEA, a new open-source alternative to IntelliJ IDEA, has been rewritten in Rust and claims to keep key features like keymaps, tool windows and search-everywhere in a native app. Benchmarks on a Python project of roughly 770 files show it opening in 0.9 seconds versus 3.1 seconds, using 169 MB of memory against IntelliJ's 2011 MB. Developers are sharing the speed and memory gains, with interest in whether it can replace JetBrains' IDE for everyday work.
