Operation Enduring Freedom

Twenty-five years after the launch of Operation Enduring Freedom, attention is returning to the night of 7 October 2001, when US and British forces began air strikes against Taliban and al-Qaeda targets in Afghanistan. Retrospectives are revisiting how the opening night of the campaign unfolded and its long consequences, from the fall of the Taliban to the two-decade war that ended with the 2021 US withdrawal.
