Research teams in Vienna and Beijing have independently built the first nuclear clocks based on thorium-229, a milestone in precision timekeeping. Unlike existing atomic clocks, nuclear clocks promise greater stability and could probe fundamental physics, potentially testing whether constants of nature change over time.
