JR East has started a free bicycle-sharing service on the section of the Uchibo Line in Chiba Prefecture that remains suspended after Typhoon No. 25. The disaster-response share cycle scheme is the first of its kind in Japan, giving commuters and students a new way to travel while trains stay out of service between affected stations.

Japanese railway operator JR is in the news for a mix of developments. JR West suspended services across the Kyoto, Kobe, Biwako, Takarazuka and Gakkentoshi lines after a person was struck by a train at Ibaraki Station, affecting over 110,000 passengers before all routes resumed. Separately, JR East reported a train delay after a driver lost a key, resumed full service on the Uchibo Line ahead of schedule, and launched Harry Potter train wrap advertising on the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
