V-2 rocket

October 3, 1942 marks the first successful launch of the German V-2 rocket, developed by Wernher von Braun's team at Peenemünde. It became the world's first ballistic missile and, after the war, laid the groundwork for both Cold War missile programs and early spaceflight, including American and Soviet rocket development.
