Zugspitze

In September, large rock masses loosened on the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain, sending a dust cloud visible for kilometres that drifted as far as Grainau. No injuries or damage were reported. The mountain rescue service says permafrost holds the rock together on the peak, and rising temperatures are weakening it — pointing to climate change as a growing factor in Alpine rockfalls.
