beech tree

A large specimen of giant polypore (Meripilus giganteus) has been spotted at Carr's Wood near Bath, growing beneath a beech tree. Nature observers note the fungus reliably appears in the same spot each autumn, fruiting from the roots of its host tree. The finding is drawing attention from wildlife and fungi enthusiasts sharing autumn sightings across the UK.
