Researchers at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea have developed ultra-low-defect semiconductor thin films using eutectic engineering, a materials technique that reduces crystalline flaws. The advance is reported to allow the same film technology to be applied to both solar cells and light-emitting diodes, improving efficiency prospects in both energy conversion and display or lighting applications.
