kamratfostran

Sweden's wealthiest families and international diplomats reportedly send their children to three expensive residential schools, where a long tradition of 'peer upbringing' — known in Swedish as kamratfostran — is said to prevail. Critics describe the practice as amounting to harsh 'pennalism', or ritualised bullying among pupils, likening it to Lord of the Flies, with parents valuing the future career contacts children cultivate there.
